Measurement uncertainty is an estimate of the statistical error relating to a measured quantity. Testing equipment can be affected by erratic physical phenomena which can have an impact on the final measurement. Also, the test set-up can have an impact on the overall measurement uncertainty: set-ups that involve higher number of equipment or simulated scenarios can be more subject to higher uncertainty.
The quality of the testing equipment is also linked to the final uncertainty: more sophisticated products should provide with more accurate measurements and therefore with a lower degree of uncertainty.
Measurement uncertainties are usually expressed by a margin around the final measured value.
